December 6, 1998 - Names and Faces The Paso Doble, 1997 Waltz, 50's Swing, Argentine Tango, Mambo, and West Coast Swing have all been updated with names matching all those people in all those pictures. A big thanks to Jon Georg for providing all the information. Also thanks go to Alena and Trina who corrected my spelling as well as informed me who were in some of the pictures in the Mambo page. Still a lot of pictures unaccounted for. Especially the older ones. Any alumni Cool Shoes reading this page and know who those people are? Drop a line via the website feedback page.

November 29, 1998 - UpdatesAs many of you have observed, this page has been rather static for the last year or so. Hopefully that will be changing soon. A lot of work has been done to the Photo Gallery. If any alumni of Cool Shoes will help me get some decent captions for the thumbnails, I would certainly appreciate it. Future enhancements will include more pictures, better menu icons, better title text, more up to date information, and maybe a web message board. But until then, drop by the Photo Gallery and check out the snazzy new setup.

June 8, 1997 - End-of-the-Year Party! Woohoo! The end of our Performance Year is official with the conclusion of our End-of-the-Year party at our Fearless Leader's house! The party started with a frenzy of activities in and near the pool. Tom Gray did a beautiful somersault into the pool. Janelle bravely defended her bikini top from being removed by Kristi and her small army of leads. Ryan introduced us all to "aerial water sports." And Elane was almost thrown in the pool with her clothes on.
As is tradition with the End-of-the-Year party comes Cathy Dark's Award Ceremony, which is really Cathy Dark's End-of-the-Year Roast. Among the awards:

• Elane Webster - Most Improved Hips Award for her performance in the cha cha.
• Marie Congleton - The Baseball Queen Award for being the first pick follow for an entire baseball team when we went to Pasco, Washington.
• Brian Zorn - The Latin Hands Award for showing us all where and what those hands should be doing.
• Dan Fisher - The Air Guitar King Award. His air guitar solo for Jailhouse Rock at the LCC performance was incredible! He should go on tour.
• Janelle Dugan and Tom Gray - Most Touchy-Feely couple in Cool Shoes.
• Luana DeGrood and Tom "Gomez" Smith - Freeway Show Award. No comment.

The party was a great success. We were well fed and well entertained. To help burn the calories off, Dawson and Gomez got into a wrestling match when Gomez insulted Dawson sumo-style top knot.

June 7, 1997 - Performance at LCC! Our last performance of the term and the year was held at Lane Community College. We performed as entertainment while the live band took breaks. We did well and enjoyed performing.

Our Fearless Leader's old roommate from her days in England, Gretta, was also there. The leads took turns showing her their savvy at social ballrooming.

May 31, 1997 - Spring Concert! Our annual Spring Concert was held at LaSelles Stewart Center at OSU. 650 people attended the event...almost achieving our goal of filling the entire lower section which holds 800. This year was our biggest ever! We hope to beat it next year!

May 16, 1997 - 50's Swing Suite at OSU Another great performance at our home court of OSU for Cool Shoes. Our Fearless Leader already has the photos back and they will be available for viewing at Tuesday's rehearsal.
This performance's Self-sacrificing Award goes to Kristi Lucker who slid so hard she burned a hole through her skirt and gave herself a floor burn. Ouch! The show must go on, right?

May 3, 1997 - Paso Doble at PSU/USABDA What a great performance! Despite having less than everyone in the Paso Doble, Cool Shoes really did well. What they lacked in numbers, they gained in exhibiting the passion of the dance. The audience loved it. Kudos to Eric who bravely sacrificed his pants to slide adequately for the final pose. And a pat on the back to Brett who learned the second solo in three days!

April 25, 1997 - 50s Rock Around the Clock Tomorrow we perform at the Hoolyeh festival and will doing the Rock Around the Clock segment. How Cathy ever got 22 couples to move in an orderly fashion is beyond us.

April 3, 1997 - Lindy and Waltz Well, it would seem that Cool Shoes will be performing at the Crystal Ballroom. Valiant and Gomez have volunteered (actually, Valiant volunteered, got carried away and volunteered Gomez, too) to figure out what we can do, who can show up, etc. The Crystal Ballroom would like to see the Rhumba and the Waltz. Yet we would very much like to do the Lindy Hop and the Paso Doble. More on this later.

April 1, 1997 - Another Performance? Are we adding another performance to our Spring '97 list by on appearing on April 13th at the Crystal Ballroom? According to an email running amok on the Cool Shoes mailing list, it looks like the Crystal Ballroom is looking for some performers for some exhibitions during their 4 - 6 ballroom lesson. This will certainly be a topic during today's class. Hope it isn't an April Fool's joke!

March 31, 1997 - A New Term Welcome, everyone, to Spring Term 1997! The Rumor Mill has been quite active. The main topic - how big will Cool Shoes be this term? The last little bit of totally wrong information that was floating around was 22-24 follows and only 18 leads! Egads! Sounds like its time for another major recruitment blitz! Sadly we will be missing some of our dancers from Winter term. Among the list of missing are: Erin Bates, Timothy Brandis, Tom Gray, and Corey Rietz. What are we going to do without you? We all wish you success this term!
