PAC Class Logistics
Prior to Day 1
Design and post the course outline and other course materials on Blackboard. Activate the class, and send an e/mail to students. Give them information about the class, particularly where to meet the first day and what to bring to class.
Day 1
Class lists are to be obtained from Employee Online Services or Blackboard. Take attendance the first day, and expect students who wish to get into the class. Have a system to work with these students. Introductory information on the content of class will be presented along with any logistical information on clothes, meeting time or place. Safety precautions may be introduced this day. Remind students to read the course materials, and go over the Course Outline. Whenever possible instruction should begin the first day. Swimming classes cannot get into the water, but other types of instruction can take place. Class should meet the full-allotted time.
Class Meeting Times
Classes meeting during the daytime generally begin on the hour. Most classes are scheduled twice a week and meet for 75 minutes; however, this includes 15-20 minutes of dressing time at the end. Often another class will follow on the hour. If the class is scheduled once a week, it must meet for 110 minutes, if no break is taken. Classes that are scheduled three times a week meet for 35-40 minutes. Students will not be able to register for a class that conflicts with the overlap time, but they may obtain an override waiver form from the PAC Office if the instructor does not believe there to be a problem with the conflict. This practice, however, is discouraged. When two classes are scheduled back-to-back there must be a five minute break between classes with different instructors. The second instructor may come in during the previous class and being to set-up as long as this is not distracting to the class in session. No students from the second class are to come into the classroom until class has concluded. All classes are to start on time!
Term
Terms are 10 weeks followed by Finals Week, with the exception of some Summer term classes. PACourses do not meet during Finals Week, but assignments can be turned in during this time.
Vacation Days
PACourses are held each scheduled class time. At no time is an instructor to dismiss class before or after a vacation date. Instructors may make the class optional, but class is still held. The instructor is expected to be there. Classes that begin at 1700 or later on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving must cancel class.
Evaluation Forms
The PAC student workers will contact each instructor and ask when to deliver the OSU Student Evaluation of Teaching forms. The instructions are on the form and should be followed as close as possible. Instructors are not to handle completed forms. There are two forms, the written evaluation form is optional. The computer scan form must be completed with a #2 pencil and pencils are available in the PAC office. The instructor may include optional questions. See the form for clarification. Students will need to be reminded to return pencils to you, and borrowed pencils must be returned immediately to the PAC office for other instructors to use. After grades have been turned in, instructors will receive the written evaluation forms. After the computer-scanned forms are compiled, a summary will be placed in the instructor’s box. Copies of this summary will be sent to the chair and PAC coordinator. The average overall score for PAC instructors is approximately 3.6, which is excellent.
End of the Term
See Grading. Students should be reminded of locker and equipment check-in and when/where grades will be posted. It is helpful to recommend classes that could be taken the following terms and means for continuing practice of skills attained in the class.
PAC Assignment
The NES Chair determines how many classes GTAs and faculty are to teach. The PAC coordinator will get term schedules for instructors approximately a term in advance to be able to submit the PAC schedule to the Schedule of Classes. For concerns with present and future class assignments, contact the PAC coordinator.
Professional Dress
When conducting PAClasses it is expected that instructors will dress appropriately for the activity within the means of the instructor. In addition, instructors must present themselves in a professional manner. It is assumed that the instructor’s appearance will be worthy of the distinction of the instructor. Concerns should be addressed to the PAC coordinator.
