Equipment

Audio Visual

Please refer to the College Phone List for AV and Equipment personnel.

Video recorders and DVD equipment is reserved and obtained from the Women’s Building Equipment Issue Room. Video playback equipment is permanently available in LH 28, 127, and 300 (gym), and WB 3, 116, and 210, and 205. The PAC coordinator can provide orientation on proper use to anyone not completely familiar with the equipment. A portable cassette tape/CD player is available for check out from either building’s equipment issue room. The Aerobic Machine Workout Room, WB Gym, and WB 204 have a built-in sound system. If you are not familiar with these areas, please contact the PAC Coordinator. The Aerobics Room, LH 200, and the Social Dance Room, WB 116, have a complex sound system and wireless microphone. Before using these, instructors must receive orientation from facilitators, Rochelle Schwab and Cathy Dark, respectively. Anyone using WB 118, the Artistic Dance Room, must confer with Carol Soleau. There are various materials available in LH 123 and the WB Equipment Issue Room. Blank video and audio tapes and some older recorded tapes are available as are some educational video tapes and reference books.

The portable cassette/CD players should be used with the accompanying plug-in cord whenever possible. The outlets in the pools are grounded; therefore, the sound system can be plugged in as long as the instructor is on the deck and is relatively dry when operating the machine. If batteries are used for anything, rechargeable ones will be used whenever possible.

Information Services (IS) also provides equipment for use in classes. Currently there is either no charge for the service or the charge is reduced. Contact the PAC coordinator if you need equipment for which there is a charge.

Equipment and Clothing Issue

Class Use: Equipment needed for classes is generally obtained from the Equipment Issue Room in each respective building. Should the cage personnel not be available at the time of the class, an alternate method of exchange will be arranged. Team sport equipment is usually stored in boxes in Langton ice room across from room 200. Equipment for outdoor facilities, other than the Women’s building Field (checked out from WB cage), is checked out through Langton Cage. Instructors are ultimately responsible for all equipment and must take all organizational steps to secure such equipment and return it to the cage after each class. It is most practical to teach students the proper use and care of equipment and expect that they assist in gathering, securing, and returning equipment. In some circumstances instructors can provide a class list to the equipment personnel and have students bring equipment to class. Equipment personnel leave in mid-afternoon. Arrangements for equipment will need to be made ahead of time.
Broken Equipment: Do not allow students to use equipment that is not safe. Remove such equipment from storage and bring it to the coordinator’s office. If you are able to repair it effectively, do so and monitor its use. If anything needs attention, contact either the building manager (Larry Taylor or Cody Carson) or the coordinator.

Purchase of New Equipment

If items need to be purchased for class, instructors are asked to provide all necessary information to the coordinator. If possible, items will be purchased as soon as possible. Needed information includes vendor, address, phone (toll free if possible), fax, item description, catalog number, model number, and price. Some catalogs are available in LH 123.

Clothing for Class

As of Fall, 2000, there will be no clothing issue other than towels. Classes requiring team designation may use the reversible black and orange shirts or the nylon vests, but these items must be checked out to the instructor and returned after each class. Also available are red cotton vests (LH only), and old pinnies,. Another option for team designation is to ask that students always come to class with both a light and dark shirt. The Activity Committee recommends that instructors avoid the practice of having teams designated by shirts and skins. It is felt that some students could be uncomfortable with this practice..

Lockers

Students may check out a basket from either building. The student may store clothes overnight in the baskets but use the long lockers during class time. Students that check out a basket, lock, and towel but do not return them at the end of the term are assessed a replacement fee. Instructors should remind students of this policy toward the end of the term.
