The DHE Historic and Cultural Textile and Apparel Collection is a scholarly resource of apparel and textile material culture. The mission of the collection is to collect, preserve, and interpret textile and apparel material culture. The collection contributes to the instructional, scholarship, and outreach missions of the department by providing opportunities for:
- Undergraduate and graduate students to learn about the historic and cultural context of textiles and apparel.
- Undergraduate, graduate students, and faculty to analyze and interpret historic and cultural significance of textiles and apparel material culture and to use the collection for inspiration for creative scholarship.
- Educating broader university and community audiences regarding the historic and cultural context and significance of textiles and apparel material culture.

The holdings of the DHE Historic and Cultural Textile and Apparel Collection include approximately 2,000 Euro-American and ethnic apparel pieces and other textile products. The diverse collection of artifacts range in date from an ancient Egyptian textile fragment, c. 1560 BCE to 1980s Euro-American dress and include artifacts from a variety of countries including China, India, Mexico, and Italy. Currently the collection is housed in two spaces in Milam Hall on the OSU campus.
Friends of the Collection Membership
Members of the Friends of the Collection share a common interest in the enrichment and study of textiles and apparel material culture. Membership fees are used to support the annual costs of the Collection and as investments to enhance and maintain the Collection.
- Basic Membership (includes Collection newsletter): $50
- Founder’s Circle: $100
- Founder’s Circle members receive the annual Collection newsletter; Synergies college magazine; invitations to all Collection events; and Department and College donor recognition.
- Curator's Circle: $500
- Curator’s Circle members receive all privileges of the membership category above plus invitations to special events offered by the Department of Design and Human Environment.
- Director's Circle: $1,000 and above
- Director’s Circle members receive all privileges of the membership categories above plus University donor recognition and opportunities for "named" recognition of aspects of the Collection.
