Graduate Degree Requirements

PhD Degree

Dedicated to improving lives, health and environment of individuals, families, and communities. The Ph.D. in DHE requires a minimum of 135 quarter hours of approved graduate credit beyond the bachelor’s degree. The major in DHE consists of 105 quarter hours, including two theory courses in the major, the dissertation, and 9 quarter hours of advanced statistics and/or research methods. The minor consists of 30 quarter hours of approved graduate credit, including one theory course. A program of study is developed by the student in consultation with the major professor and the student’s graduate committee. Preliminary written and oral examinations are required to advance to candidacy. A dissertation based on original research is required. Three quarters of continuous full-time enrollment are necessary to fulfill the residence requirements.

M.A./M.S. Degree

The master’s degree in DHE requires a minimum of 45 quarter hours of approved graduate credit. The major in DHE consists of 30 quarter hours, including two DHE theory courses and three research methods/statistics courses. A thesis or professional project is required. The minor consists of 15 quarter hours of approved graduate credit. A program of study is developed by the student in consultation with the major professor and minor professor. For the M. A. the student must show foreign language proficiency equivalent to that attained at the end of a second-year university course in that language with a grade of C (2.00) or better.
