Student Kitchen and Bath Association (SKBA)
The Student Kitchen and Bath Association (SKBA) is an exciting student organization affiliated with the National Kitchen and Bath Association. Our mission is to network with peers within the Housing Studies and Interior Design programs at OSU and our teachers, and then extend that network beyond the four walls of the classroom and into the industry. Through the Columbia River Chapter of NKBA, our parent chapter, we have immediate access to the industry and benefit from the support of industry professionals. Membership is limited to students in pre-Housing Studies, Housing Studies, pre-Interior Design, and Interior Design. Officers are elected in May of each year and serve for one academic year.
SKBA meets regularly to plan activities and hear guest speakers. Recent activities have included volunteer days for Habitat for Humanity, a rendering workshop, and professional meetings in conjunction with the Columbia River Chapter of NKBA in Portland. Each year, SKBA conducts the "Design Your Dream Kitchen Workshop" for members of the community. Participants learn the essential elements of kitchen design, consider options in cabinetry, appliances, and materials, and begin plans for a new or remodeled kitchen. A highlight of the year is participation in the Kitchen/Bath Industry Show & Conference, held in exciting cities such as Las Vegas or Chicago. Exhibits, vendors, and education seminars together with dynamic networking events make this an invaluable opportunity for students planning careers in the kitchen and bath industry.
