Department of Nutrition and Exercise Sciences (NES)
The Department of Nutrition and Exercise Sciences (NES) integrates two complementary applied human sciences that focus on optimal health and disease prevention through the lifestyle factors of nutrition and physical activity. Exercise and Sport Science focuses on the application of the biological, physical, social and behavioral sciences in the study of physical activity and sport, and their effects on the health, fitness and quality of life of people of all ages and abilities. Nutrition programs focus on the role of diet and nutrition in human health. Academic programs in the Department prepare professional practitioners (e.g., the Dietetics, Fitness & Nutrition, and Athletic Training programs; see Undergraduate Programs) as well as research scientists (see Graduate Programs).
