How to apply
Departmental Level Admission requirements
In addition to University admission requirements, applicants for graduate study in Nutrition & Exercise Sciences will be expected to:
Submit all application materials to the Office of Admission and Orientation by January 15, 2009 to be ensured consideration for the following Fall term. Applications received after the deadline will be considered on a space-available basis.
Submit official GRE scores (completed in the last five years) Visit the GRE website for more information.
Have completed a bachelor's degree in nutrition, exercise and sport science, or closely related field with background coursework appropriate to the chosen area of concentration. Applicants from other fields of study can be considered, but will likely need to make up deficiencies in background.
How to apply for Departmental and/or College Fellowships
All NES Graduate Program applicants are encouraged to apply for Fellowships. For detailed descriptions of available fellowships, application deadlines etc., go to http://www.hhs.oregonstate.edu/nes/graduate/scholarships.html.
How to be considered for a Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA)
All applicants who are admitted to the graduate program are considered for an assistantship. Teaching assistantships are awarded by the Department, while research assistantships are determined by individual faculty members who have research grant funding.
If you wish to be considered to teach in the Physical Activity Courses (PAC) Program, complete the PAC Teaching Preference Form.

1. Completed NES Graduate Admission Checklist. This identifies your specific major and area of concentration within Nutrition & Exercise Sciences.
2. Original application form and one photocopy. The appropriate graduate major code numbers are as follows:
Nutrition – 4220
Exercise and Sport Science - 7640
Movement Studies in Disability (MS level only) - 7512.

3. 50.00 (US) check or money order payable to Oregon State University.
4. Two photocopies of official transcripts.
5. A letter of intent specific to the area of concentration and your goals in pursuing a graduate degree.
6. Three letters of professional reference. The letters must be specific to your academic area of interest with at least two of the letters written by university professors. These are typically sent separately by the source of the reference, and can be sent directly to:
NES Graduate Program, 101 Milam, OSU, Corvallis OR 97331.
7. GRE Scores. The institution code for Oregon State University is 4586 and the department code can be entered as 0000, as there is no code specifically for a department of nutrition & exercise sciences. Although it is acceptable to submit a photocopy of your GRE report as part of your application materials, students accepted into the program must ultimately provide an official record of their GRE report so that scores can be verified.
