15th Annual Wheel-A-Thon
This year's Wheel-A-Thon is going to be a big event. Several of our main sponsors include Reser Fine Food and Therapeutic Associates Physical Therapy, and Tony Rocklin, an OSU Alumni and founder of the Wheel-A-Thon several years back.
CURRENT TEAMS SCHEDULE- What:
- The Wheel-A-Thon is an annual fund-raising event put up by our club to raise awareness for people with disabilities within our community and raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Clinic - our main charity of interest. This year we have also included the IMPACT program (Individualized Movement & Physical Activity for Children Today.)
This event consists of a wheel-chair obstacle course made up of miscellaneous hurdles. A team of 6-10 people must take turns looping around as many times as possible for this time frame of 20 minutes. A 30 minute time slot is allotted for each competing team and a maximum of 24 different teams may compete in this two day event. - Why:
- We will be donating half of the proceeds to the OSU Multiple Sclerosis clinic, and the other half to the IMPACT program on Campus. IMPACT is a weekly activity matching Corvallis area children with disabilities with OSU students who guide the children in a variety of physical activities. The MS clinic is an individualized exercise program for persons with multiple sclerosis. Both of these are excellent programs which need as much funding as possible in order to help them continue to be successful and to provide participants with improved equipment.
- When:
- May 9th and 10th, in the MU Quad, from 12-6pm on both days.
- How:
-
To participate one needs to gather a team of 6-10 members (the minimum is 6 and maximum is 10).
Each team must complete a registration for by April 26 which may be obtained by contacting Amy Tran by email. Team forms must be turned into Mendy Galer (Milam 101) with the following in a sealed envelope:- A minimum of $20 raised by each member of the team (cash or checks payable to the PTAH club)
- A signed waver form by all members of the team.
- A Completed contact info form
- Prizes:
- Prizes will be awarded to the team who raises the most, the team who makes the most laps in 20 minutes, runner up teams and individuals who raise the most and lap the most.
This years Grand Prize include: Two $300 gift certificates to the ipod/Apple store! *Note: To be eligible for the grand prize, an average of $20 per team member must have been raised.
Fall Fun Run
For the first time our club planned a fun run to raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Clinic on campus. On Saturday November 18, 2006 our club ran 5k and raised a total of $277. We exceeded our goal which was set for $200. This was a first time event for the club and about 20 members showed up to run and walk, in beaver spirit and positive attitudes. Great Job Everyone!
14th Annual Wheel-a-thon
On Wednesday and Thursday, May 10th and 11th, 2006, our club sponsored the 14th annual 'Wheel-a-Thon' in the Memorial Union Quad. Our goal for this event is to raise awareness for people with disabilities within our community and fundraise for the Multiple Sclerosis Clinic on campus. The clinic provides one on one attention for individuals with MS to help improve their overall muscular strength and awareness of this disease.
This year, we raised over $1000, exceeding our goal of at least $500, to improve exercise equipment and supplies for the continued success of the MS clinic.
