Undergraduate Advising
Undergraduate academic advising is a service through which advisors assist students in selecting, planning, and completing their academic programs. The College of Health and Human Sciences provides centralized advising in the Office of Academic Advising and Student Services. There are five professional advisors available on an appointment basis to assist you. Each advisor has a department focus for advising, and students are not assigned to a particular advisor. Prospective students must meet with an academic advisor prior to their initial Oregon State University registration and any future fall term pre-registration. Current OSU students wishing to change major into departments within the College of Health and Human Science must meet with an advisor prior to entrance. To make an appointment, contact us:
Advising appointmentsIt is highly recommended that you meet with your academic advisor at least once each academic year. PIN numbers change for fall registration and students must have a future plan prior to receiving their PIN, it is recommended that you make an appointment in spring prior to fall registration. If you lose your PIN number, please come to our office with your student identification card to receive your PIN again. If you need assistance in planning a schedule prior to registration, you are encouraged to do so early in the term; our office becomes very busy during priority registration. Students may schedule an appointment by phoning the Office of Academic Advising and Student Services, (541) 737-8900, or stopping by the office in Milam 116. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please call to cancel so that another student may be accommodated. During your appointment, you may:
Things you should bring to your appointment:
Your unofficial transcriptYou can view your transcript at any time by going to the Student Online Services, entering your university ID number and GAP, then finding the link to your transcript. Help! I've been suspendedAcademically, you have been struggling for a while, as you have been on academic warning, academic probation, and that has lead to the suspension. Review the rules and regulations if you are unfamiliar with the university’s regulations. By now you have received a letter from the Registrar’s. It states the steps you need to take for reinstatement from the university. Know your circumstances. What factors have influenced you academically? Take the on-line self-assessment and print your scores. If your request is to apply for an exception to the guidelines, you
will need to work with your advisor. Prior to making an appointment,
draft a personal statement making sure to answer the questions in the
Reinstatement Personal Letter. In your appointment,
your advisor will review with you the universities rules and regulations,
review your scores from the on-line self-assessment (bring this with
you to the appointment), and review your letter. You will not receive
a decision at this time. Your advisor has guidelines that must be followed
too. You will receive a decision of support by email or phone
call.
Your advisor has your best interest in mind and is determining the
best course of action to support your success. Your advisor will work
with
you on an academic learning plan that outlines achievement of goals.
