As I review my time after leaving OSU, I’m amazed by how the tools and skills that I learned in home economics and housing has supported me and my endeavors.

“Because of the valuable experience and skills that I gained from the MSD program, I had the confidence to develop new programs in different communities,” says Heidi.

Our occupations are ones that keep families safe, housed, supported in times of need and directed to solutions when diverse problems arise. Exactly where we wanted them to be.

“It’s great to be ‘Green’, but I think that term means too many things to too many people. In some places it’s downright derogatory,” says Dustin who was recently named environmental sustainability coordinator for the City of Sunnyvale.

After living in Oregon my entire life, I wanted to see firsthand how the rest of the country eats and how their relationships and behaviors with food are different.

Growing up I knew I wanted to be in the health care field and I also knew I did not want to be a clinician. I started my time at OSU in the Business School and then switched to Public Health my junior year. I chose to focus on health care administration – a perfect area for me as I got to use both my business skills and public health skills.

“Fifty years ago this fall, a dream came true for me as I began my freshman year in the College of Home Economics at Oregon State,” wrote Joanne Grabinski ’63 recently.
