Epidemiologist Viktor Bovbjerg says what excited him most about coming to OSU was the potential for bringing communities and researchers together to create health solutions that work.
“The Oregon Rural Communities Explorer provides public, online access to social, demographic, economic, and environmental information about Oregon’s rural counties and places,” explain Lena Etuk, social demographer with Extension Family and Community Health and one of the developers of the site. “It’s a public, unbiased information system and teaching tool for rural leaders, engaged residents, program practitioners, and foundations.”
Five faculty received University level honors recognizing their excellence in teaching, mentoring, research, and outreach.
During the college’s annual meeting earlier this month, awards were presented to the following hard working, committed, extraordinary faculty and staff.
Barbara Knudson, a 1939 graduate in Home Economics and Education died on September 10, 2009 at her home in Keizer, Oregon. Her legacy of care for families lives on in the Barbara Emily Knudson Endowed Chair in Family Policy.
Just prior to her passing at age 102, Hallie Ford gave an $8 million gift to the college to build the center that will carry on her legacy of love, respect, and support for children and families.
“A Designer’s Affair” featured the work of 15 student designers from the Department of Design and Human Environment with staging, lights, music and commentary all provided by students.
The eager group of eight new pre-dietetics majors started OSU last fall, bringing all the anticipation, questions, and uncertainty of typical first year students.
Perhaps being part of a loving family that respects generations is what drew Alexis to her career studying adults in family relationships. “It’s fascinating to see how we transition as adults and form close relationships with our parents,” she explains.
